In 2024, a 100 kW solar power plant was commissioned at the wastewater treatment facilities of Korosten Utility Company “Vodokanal.” This initiative was implemented with the support of the UNDP project and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) under the program “Removing Barriers to Promote Investments in Energy Efficiency of Public Buildings in Small and Medium-sized Ukrainian Cities through the ESCO Mechanism.”
Technical specifications:
— 176 ReneSola solar panels, each rated at 575 W
— 2 Huawei inverters, 50 kW each
— Annual production — over 110,000 kWh
Expected results:
— Up to 12% energy savings annually
— Up to 28% savings during the summer period
— Backup power for critical infrastructure
— No expenses from the city budget
The ESCO contract stipulates that the investor recovers the invested funds solely from the actual energy savings, with no risks for the community.
This case demonstrates how Ukrainian communities can enhance energy independence and effectively modernize infrastructure today.
